SubUrban Decay, Bridgeport Theatre Company New Works’ first workshop production of an original rock musical, has been cast and is currently in heavy development.
The cast includes (in alphabetical order): Drew Camputaro, Lisa Dahlstrom, Khallid Graham, Aubrey Kyburz, Emma LaPlace, Maggie Pangrazio, Jason Parry, Kevin Pelkey, Sean Reynolds, Shantal Rhodes, Vic Terenzio, and Melinda Zupaniotis.
The plot: Newlyweds Kara and Christian want to live the American dream, but what they find in the suburban sprawl of Copper Grove is a nightmare just waiting to happen. The show explores the effects of media, technology, and paranoia on the unsuspecting residents of a cul-de-sac already brimming with madness...

Development began in February with the collaboration of writer and director Brian Michael Riley and composer / lyricist Christopher Cavaliere. Based on a story by Riley, the original book and songs are being custom written specifically for the cast of 13. Rehearsals consisting of scene and character building workshops began on April 1st.
Graphic designer Damon Testani and photographer Michelle Beaulieu have joined the production team at this early stage to start creating the visual world of SubUrban Decay. Much of their work is to be featured in the show.
The show is slated for August at the Downtown Cabaret.

In 2010, a script call went out to local writers for “10 to 15 minute plays depicting twisted fairy tales, young at heart, mature in nature.” On November 5th, 2011 at our new home in the Downtown Cabaret Theatre, we presented a shining example of what was received: “After Bedtime Stories”, our 2nd showcase of Connecticut writers and talent.
The production was conceived and directed by Brian Michael Riley, Director of New Works for Bridgeport Theatre Company and contained an original collection of adult themed, modern works based in the folklore and fairy tale genre that delighted our midnight audience.
Included in the lineup ~ Baby Bear Becomes a Man by Vanessa David, Happily Ever After by Michael McGuire, The King by Jack Rushen, The Lost Boy by Jason Parry, and Grounded developed by BTC’s New Works. Additional material included monologues from Hoodlum by Christian Cole-Howard, The Pied Piper poem by Stefanie DeLeo, The Better to See You a monologue by Laura Natusch, and In the Eye of the Storm a poem by Debbie Alter.
