About the show:
It’s September 1934, and the Cleveland Grand Opera Company has invited the world famous tenor Tito Morelli to perform Othello, his greatest role, at the gala season opener. This madcap screwball comedy has one, two, three, four, five, yes, that’s five doors on the stage with a dizzying plot about Tito the ailing Italian tenor, his jealous wife, a sexy soprano, a scheming impresario and his mousy factotum with dreams of opera stardom.
It's the classic farce situation -- disaster; denial; recovery; complication; catastrophe –slamming doors and mistaken identities, the split-second collisions of purpose, and confusing double entendres. This adult farce has left audiences from Broadway to London's West End teary-eyed with laughter. Lend Me a Tenor, a seven-time Tony Award nominee, deftly blends slapstick humor and zany situations with classical opera.
“The most howlingly funny and ingeniously staged laugh machine to hit Broadway in years.” -- Time Out NY
