PRESS RELEASE

The Downtown Cabaret Theatre (DCT) has a long and rich history of providing quality live entertainment to Downtown Bridgeport and surrounding communities.  In an effort to provide a year round entertainment destination and to expand the variety of shows, DCT is in the concept stages of developing a performing arts center idea which will house other performing arts groups.  Executive Director Hugh Hallinan has begun this process with the addition of shows produced by Bridgeport Theatre Company (BTC.)  Hallinan says, “By sharing a single theatrical infrastructure, which includes technical aspects such as the stage, lighting, sound, auditorium, storage, rehearsal space and some technical personnel, the dollar savings by housing multiple theatre groups under one roof is significant.  ”

Bridgeport Theatre Company provided their first successful season of shows last year at The Playhouse on the Green. The property owner decided to close that facility last spring following BTC’s production of “Seussical The Musical,” leaving BTC without a home to provide it’s second season of shows.  Say’s BTC’s Artistic Director Eli Newsom, "We are thrilled to be in residence at the most well-known venue in Bridgeport. We think it is an excellent match for the size and type of productions we offer and are excited to kick off our second season this fall.  The timing seemed synchronistic for both of our groups.  The entire staff at DCT has welcomed us with open arms and it's refreshing to be housed with fellow theater people who understand the demands of running a non-profit theater company and who are involved for the love of creating and presenting live theatre.”

Both groups are excited and looking forward to adding to the flourishing arts scene of Downtown Bridgeport. While both companies enjoy the stability of being under one roof, they still maintain 100% individual artistic and financial autonomy as 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations.  For more information on Downtown Cabaret Theatre or Bridgeport Theatre Company please visit their websites at: www.downtowncabaret.org and www.bridgeporttheatre.org, respectively.
